324 Biologics gone viral: Perceptions of biologics within online psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis communities

Limited analyses of social media content among psoriasis (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients exist. These may turn to gain insight on treatments such as biologics. This study aims analyze the content, sentiment, engagement posts regarding biologics for PsO PsA. Posts comments discussing were extracted from publicly accessible PsA Reddit groups. assigned higher lower order themes (HOTs LOTs, respectively), sentiments, scores. Of 1141 extracted, 705 classified under HOT general/efficacy. 12 (LOTs) identified: hoping start (7.1% posts), general hesitancy (17%), advice/experience (10.2%), symptoms improved (36.6%), not improved/worsened (5.7%), switching (10.5%), time results (13.4%), benefits outweigh risks (0.4%), stubborn areas (2.7%), stopped working (4.9%), mask problem (1.0%), other (5.4%). 61.3% was positive 24.0% neutral, 14.7% negative sentiment. The mean sentiment score, defined average all posts’ scores (where negative=-1, neutral=0, positive=1), overall at 0.47, 95% CI [.41-.52]. Mean between LOTs significantly different (p<0.001). Information is mostly positive; however, there remains a significant number users expressing dissatisfaction with their efficacy or in general. Many sought anecdotal advice. findings can help guide educational efforts anticipate concerns appease biologic use.
